Newport Harbor Scavenger Hunt & Dinner

Our evening begins in Newport Harbor as we split into teams and board our electric "Duffy" boat vessels to explore the harbor and compete for the title of Grand Champion Scavengers of The Hunt....all while taking in the beautiful California scenery and wildlife. Be the leader to help your team spot the items on the hunt or simply sit back and enjoy watching graceful sailing vessels gliding along the bay, the frolic of sea lions and the whistling of sea birds.

We will dock at Sol restaurant to end our two-hour tour with a hearty Baja-style dinner and plenty of frosty beverages.

Enjoy the sunset and be entertained by Magic Man JB Benn.

Keynote: Finding the Dark Cloud Behind the Silver Lining - the 2019 Economy

Click file to download

Dr. Chris Kuehl, Armada Corporate Intelligence

Last year was a good year - it had its bumps but it was arguably the strongest since the end of the recession. But that was a year with plenty of boosts along the way - from tax cuts to some solid global growth. This has been a very different year thus far. Global growth has stalled and the US has seen its export sector fade due to that slowdown plus the trade wars. There has been a slowdown in retail, housing and sectors dependent on the government. Energy is strong and health care is still growing but now we are worrying about inflation and labor shortage and that slowing global market. No collapse on the horizon but how bad does this get and what would make it turn around?

Impact of Increased Private Equity and Hedge Fund Activity on Chapter 11/Creditors’ Rights: The New Normal?

Andrew Behlmann, Lowenstein Sandler

The program addresses the changed strategies and outcomes arising from increased private equity and hedge fund involvement in Chapter 11 cases.  They have shown a greater willingness to swap debt for ownership compared to traditional lenders.  All too frequently this has discouraged a true restructuring and fix of the business in bankruptcy in favor of a quick balance sheet restructuring or a bulk sale at the bottom of the market that freezes out unsecured creditors. The speakers will discuss unique warning signs of, and issues arising in Chapter 11 cases filed by a distressed company controlled by private equity funds that threaten unsecured creditor recoveries.

A "Magical" Beach Party

Thanks to our sponsor High Radius, the highlight of our conference will be illusionist JB Benn who will invite you "up-close" to amaze you with his artistry and magical skill. Seeing is disbelieving whenever JB performs and that is where the fun begins. He will entertain us throughout the conference, but plans to save his "best stuff" for our beach party, so don't miss your chance to watch as he makes things disappear (as well as the way that you count on reality).

Since we are in southern California, we simply must get our feet in the sand (well you don't have to technically step in the sand if you don't want to, but for the rest of us, sand castles, beach chairs and fire pits will do). Drinks and dinner will be casual and luau-style (no dressing up for this!!).  Bring your laid-back, SoCal surfer dude tude and let your hair down (hey the rest of your office isn't around to Insta your evening activities).
